Jasper Road School Band

The Jasper Road Band is a highly valued program with over 150 students involved yearly.

Students from Year 3 are offered the opportunity to join the Jasper Road Band Program and hire a musical instrument if required.

Performance Opportunities

Beginner Band

• No experience needed
• One band rehearsal each week
• One small group tutorial each week
• Learn an instrument and how to play together
• Performance opportunities

Rehearsals

Beginner Band - One rehearsal per week

Concert and Performing Band - Two rehearsals per week

Children learn to:

• Watch the conductor
• Play together
• Read Music
• Understanding music general knowledge

Tutorials

• Weekly, half-hour, small-group lessons at school with professional tutor
• May be before school, lunch time or after school
• In sections (e.g. flute / trumpet / lower brass / percussion) 
• For Beginner Band only where children learn to:
  • Set up instrument
  • Play the instrument
  • Read music

Commitment

• Significant commitment from both parents and children
• Commit to program one full year at a time:
  • Attend rehearsals and tutorials
  • Practice at home
  • Pay band fees
• Aim - each child will progress through the bands, eventually joining Performing Band

Home Practice

• Parents should encourage regular practice:
  • 5–10 minutes per day is better than 45 minutes weekly
• Be involved, encourage your child!
• Improves confidence and ability
